A Story of Humble Beginnings

Hello there, my name is Angel Okumu and I am the founder of Native Kanvas. I was born and raised in East Africa Uganda and moved to United states in September 2007. Native Kanvas is very dear to me since it was born out of a dark place but now a living a testament to tenacity, courage and hope.

In 2009, while struggling with homelessness in Boston, MA I slowly lost all my hair to a combination of extreme stress, harsh winter conditions, scarce hygiene opportunities & limited access to care products for textured-natural like mine. During that period, I came to the realization that chemical-free haircare products for textured hair like mine were hard to come by in big retail stores. That is how the idea to form my own haircare company addressing this issue came about.

After about 3 years of passionate research, I started Native Kanvas with the ultimate goal of giving the world exceptional skin & textured-hair care essentials for the entire family. From that day forward I have stopped at nothing to create the most original, pure & effective formulas in the skin & hair-care game.

I have personally sourced for the highest quality raw materials & now I present to you luxurious & guilt-free skin & textured haircare products.
